Black People should thank us for slavery.

It's a interesting concept. Should black people be thankful for slavery because it has now allowed the majority of them to live in the US with a much better quality of life then they would have in Africa?

No I'm not suggesting they thank us for slavery. (It was a catchy title.) It was an inhumane and cruel invention of our great grandparents upon our darker counter-parts; but, in the same breath, what if slavery had never taken place? Would thousands and thousands of African descendants be living in sub-poverty, primitive African societies with little or no chance for prosperity or hope?

Seriously for all the harm done, how many black individuals have chosen to return to Africa?

Even during the time of slavery many slave owners justified their actions by saying "we're doing the blacks a favor. Better to be a slave in a wealthy country than free in a poor one."

I'm not saying that we should forget history, or the atrocities of time, but is there a point at which we can say that wound is healed, and more importantly rather then continue to point fingers; we realize, indeed we are a country united, rather then divided?

One might factor in the damage done to African societies by generations of slave-taking before making glib assessments about the state of African societies today.

I have, even though I did not annotate that. Certainly our Slave trade has effected Africa today. However I don't think slavery alone is responsible for the difference of economic factors between Africa and the US. I'm sure it's apart of the big picture, but not completely responsible.

(Just to clarify, I don't personally endorse, nor agree with this idea, but I did find it an interesting paradox.)

since we are living in a land of "what ifs" and "maybes" ... What if those people that were put into slavery, could have been the turning point FOR africa... What if without slavery, it would be america in destution

Did anyone ever consider that one of the main reasons that Africa's so screwed up now was because of The Berlin Conference of 1884 - '85 which split Africa up like a cake among European powers which led to colonialism? Or that it's REALLY screwed up now because The Cold War (Which was "cold" for America, but Hot as Hell for Africa.) and funding to brutal and inhuman dictators like Mobutu & Idi Amin on both sides of the political fence (Capitalism & Communism) who bleed their respective countries dry? Granted, you ALWAYS had infighting by rival African nations, but nothing compares to the outside influences that devastated the richest (As far as mineral wealth & resources.) continent on Earth.

Holla..
