This summer I will be visiting Yellowstone for the first time and would like to hear suggestions for a first time visitor. Any recommendations for hotels, tours, & highlights would be a lot of help. Thanks
Probably the most popular portion of Yellowstone is the volcanic geysers and natural animal wildlife. Most geysers are only a few short paces from a trail.
There are 8 various sections in Yellowstone, but areas like Mammoth & Canyon typically take more time to visit. Of course Old Faithful is a must and other nearby places like Geyser Hill Loop Trail, Black Sand and Biscuit Basin Trails, and Midway Geyser Basin Trail are great too.
The most popular place to stay is in the park itself, but also a nice area is the town of West Yellowstone, which has low-price accommodations to luxury suites at name brand hotels and motels as well as mom and pop inns. If you'd rather avoid the tourism aspect of West Yellowstone, Cody Wyoming is a nice remote place to stay while on vacation.
Weather can range from 90 degrees in the sun to below freezing in the upper elevations. Dress in layers, and look for a local forecast before leaving home.
While the park can be done in 3-4 days, I recommend a full week that could also include day trips up to Glacier National Park and the Tetons if time is available. |
