The Air Car
Ed Cone posts a very interesting article on alternative fuels, and it got me thinking about a car I stumbled upon several years ago called the air car.
I imagine for most people, hearing of the air car, conjures up thoughts of when rumor among the ignorant was that 200 MPG carburetors existed but the oil companies just didn't want it to become reality. But the air car, seems to be the most promising, interesting, and genius idea I've come across. I mean seriously, if this thing comes to pass, we're all going to be slapping our foreheads saying "why didn't we think of that sooner?"
Think about it. In order for an engine to work, you've got to move the piston. Up till now, we've used combustion to push the pistons up and down. But what if we could simply use pneumatic pressure to do it. Air? Compressed air which is practically free, and without pollution might be the answer. Honestly when we run out of air, driving isn't going to matter much anymore, now is it? This is the definitive answer. Whats more is these vehicles appear to get a greater range then electric vehicles, & do not suffer from a delayed recharge time.
The problem? No one except the car manufacturer is getting a piece of the pie. Oil company's would literally close overnight if everyone bought one.
The complications from other fuel types remain primarily distribution and infrastructure; but with the air car, an on-board compressor and an electrical outlet removes any need for a centralized location to fuel up on energy.
As soon as I win the lotto, you'll be finding one of these in my driveway.
