Food Lion Vs Harris Teeter

Food Lion

If we can all remember a few years ago; Food Lion, was accused of bleaching their meats. A huge scandal that left thousands of Greensborians saying they would never go back. Some how Food Lion has survived. Someone ended up going back. Why? Was it their Extra Low Prices? It sure isn't their customer service. Take for instance my Food Lion, managed by Mr. Hamer. Everyone jokingly calls him M.C. Hammer behind his back despite his continued protest thats not how you pronounce it. The employees as the supermarket are at best cordial. I onced asked if they could special order my favorite soda Vernors Ginger Ale once. The lady looked at me and said "You'll have to do that yourself, hun" while smacking her gum. I said "huh?" She said "They've got something another online at foodlion.com " Really I said? So I went to the website when I went home and guess what, it wasn't available. My main complaint with Food Lion though is that its just no fun. The people arn't friendly. The pricing actually isn't all that low. The Hot bar sucks. They never have anything in stock, and lastly the brands they carry are complete crap. It feels like work to shop, and it shouldn't. I love to shop. I don't love Food Lion.

Harris Teeter

It wasn't too long ago Harris Teeter was barely more then an copycat Piggly Wiggly. Unfortunatley I can still remember jokes about Dolly Parton buying Harris Teeter and renaming it Hairy Teeters. I didn't think it was funny then, and I still don't now. Needless to say, today Harris Teeter is an upscale shopping experience. It's My Harris Teeter according to their jingle. They come out and say it...

Quote:

It's the little things by far.
It's the people that make who we are..
It's a part of you & a part of me.
Theres no place I'd rather be...
My Harris Teeter.

And now that we have that damn song in our heads....

Everytime I've went into my Harris Teeter I've been astonished at how everyone is so friendly. Maybe its the fact the I'm used to Food Lion's "We Suck, You Suck" Employee mantra... but generally the people at Harris Teeter are neighborly... yeah thats the word. One time I went into the store with my two kids, and was having a horrible time balancing hanging onto the kids and pushing the cart. An employee walked up to me and said I'll help you M'am. The bonus was he was even cute. He even loaded my groceries in the car. When I dropped the baby blanket and didn't even noticed. He picked it up, wiped it off and wrapped it back around the baby. How can you not love this place??? But my favorite part of Harris Teeters is the Sub Bar.... Oh My God... This is so-o much better then the crappy Chicken at food lion. Made fresh while shopping, I can go home with my groceries and not have to actually cook. The kids love it and they taste great. Guess what? They even have my soda. This is what shopping should be... Give me a break Food Lion.... I want my Harris Teeter.

Local employees for Food Lion have gone on notice to be on their best behavior since they are being featured on Dateline NBC tonight; which is about the cleanliness of chain supermarkets. The memo includes references to the possibility of local media wanting interviews with employee's of the Triads Food Lions. All this as Food Lion moves into C.Y.A mode to prevent another "Bleach the Beef" catastrophe.

The one up on Lee's Chapel is a freakin train wreck. I avoid that place at all costs. The one off of Battleground accross from Brassfield isn't too bad.

The one in McClainsville is pretty nice. But it's only a couple years old.

I miss Winn Dixie. Good prices, nice selection, nicely spaced isles, and the one off of New Garden was within walking distance of my house. Now it's soon to reopen as a Harris Teeter. Higher prices, no decent selection, weird store lay out.

I like the Family Food Markets, formally Bi-Lo. Especially their meat selection.

Well I was suprised when I watched the episode last night. They came out the cleanest of all the stores that they where researching. Thats pretty good. I don't know if I agree with it, especially since the dirtiest one they said was Safeway, and when I used to go into Safeway out in Arizona, they where one of the cleanest stores you've ever seen.

Mmmm, I think all Food Lions are gross. I guess Harris Teeter or Lowes Foods seem to be cleaner, a little more expensive, but cleaner. I got spooked when some manager guy (dark hair and dark goatee) at the one on West Market in Greensboring was checking me out. I'm a dude, and gay too, but you know, he was a little too creepy by following me around and smirking. I gigged him and dropped off my basket of crap and I've never been back. Look out Hairy Teeters, you have a new customer! Tripp

Food Lion: Clean, YES!(GOLDEN GATE STORE)
Prices: YES
Attitude of employees: Stinks!
Having to put your own items on that check-out belt?
A BIG FAT ZERO! Until Food Lion corrects this stupid step, I will only go there for the specials!
Now for Harris-Teeter: (the one at Golden-Gate)
Clean, Most of the time
Prices: Fair
Attitude of employees? OK..nothing to write home about!
This store has consistantly gone down-hill with the influx of new employees. Arrogant, Sassy, and definitely NOT the pick of the litter. The old days were wonderful!
What to watch out for: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR REGISTER RECEIPT! THEY ARE NOTORIOUS FOR OVER-PRICING AND CONVENIENTLY "FORGETTING" TO SCAN YOUR VIC CARD!
Love their friendly employees! PISGAH CHURCH STORE IS A+.

The new Harris Teeter by my house is very nice. Prices are so out of whack though, especially meats.

By far the best value I've found is Southern Family Foods (formally Bi-Lo in the Greensboro area). Nice selection and prices. Service is ok, but not to the level of HT. But I'm willing to sacrifice a little service for the much better prices.

I wish S-F-F had bought the old Winn Dixie by my house instead of HT.

Oh well.
