Good thing, no one died because we were too cheap.
Quote:
The blaze could serve as a wake-up call for communities that have schools without sprinkler systems, said David Douglas , assistant chief of the Greensboro Fire Department...
..."To me, it makes a person want to rethink our priorities as far as spending of our public school dollars. Would it be worth it? I think it would be," she said...
...Douglas, with the Greensboro Fire Department, said adding sprinklers to older schools makes sense...
...No one was killed in this week's fire, but the schools house large numbers of children for much of the day, he said.

Oh c'mon now Beth. You know as well as I do, its always about the money. _________________ Carl Sagan:

Sadly it is always about the money and sprinkler systems weren't the only thing lacking at Eastern Guilford. The entire building was sadly lacking in properly constructed fire walls that extend through the roof and would have contained the fire to one section of the building long enough for fighfighters to get the fire under control. That building was designed to be one giant easy bake oven.
Also of question is security. There is very little in the way of explosive chemicals in use in high school chemistry labs and the fact that there was no class going on in the lab at the time of the explosion leads me to believe this was a case of arson. In most high school chemistry labs there's not enough explosive chemicals to blow up a freshman's lunch box. _________________ My favorite quote?
