Pimp My Ride

Okay I've worked more this week due to a change in position at my "real" job, then I think I have all year. In addition to that, my car, my lovely mode of transportation that has ran perfectly for the last year and a half decided it needed a muffler this week. I've neglected my car due to my unwillingness to spend the time and money to fix it. So this weekend, after work I decided to pimp my ride. Okay maybe not pimp, but Fixed, yes.

First modification was replacing the stock muffler with a free-flowing "Thrush" muffler. Since the old muffler decided to fall off anyways, it actually was really simple. Basically a couple of clamps and sliding the new muffler on to the old pipe yielded a deep murmur out from the exhaust that indicated this car was different. Step on the peddle, and the MX-3 roared with a racing bellow.

Having one of the low-beam headlights out for some time it was finally time to replace the front bulbs. A pair of $40.00 Sylvania Silver Star High Output bulbs did the trick. With an ultra clear white light compared to the original OE yellow bulbs. These will make travelling in the car safer.

I also had to replace one of the brake lights. Nothing fancy here, but it keeps the car safe and keeps cops away.

Next was a set of spark plugs. Simple idea right. Unscrew the old ones, screw in new ones. Except for someone had previously snapped the porcelain off on the #3 cylinder and decided to bash the porcelain into a million chunks, compacting them into little grains of porcelain sand. It was so packed in you couldn't get a socket around it. After removing the valve cover to get closer to the bottom of the bore the plugs sit in, I spent a good chunk of the afternoon scraping the bottom of the bore and then vacuuming out the grains until I could get the socket around the broken spark plug and remove it. Damaged in this mishap was one set of mis-matched spark plug wires. So I got a nice shiny new set of those, and put everything back together.

The car runs like a complete different car, especially since previous owners of the car never removed that plug and it was noticeably worn down in comparison to the other three.

Now I'm completely broke, my back and my hands are sore but I got it done. Remind me next time I need my car fix to hire a boyfriend.

Damn, you go girl! The most work I will do on my car is occasionally vacuum it and wash it.
