War on terror question

I'm curious. Does anyone really know what "these people" (as Matt designated them in another thread) want out of this war? Are we really certain that we aren't willing or able to give them what they want? I'm merely asking questions that I think ought to be considered. I wouldn't propose the second until the first is really answered.
