Trying to end ban on Python film, Life of Brian

It's been nearly 30 years, and apparently several places in Wales have banned the movie "Life of Brian" all this time. Now the mayor of one of these towns, who was actually featured in the film, is trying to get the ban lifted.

First off... are these people cracked? I think that no one who has actually watched this film would come away from it thinking that the Python folks were making fun of Jesus. His followers, sure... but not the man himself.

Second, WTF are they thinking in this day and age, trying to ban anything? When you can order a DVD to be delivered to your door ... what does this ban mean anyway? Just a symbolic poke in the eye to Monty Python?

Finally, I think it's hugely ironic that this town banned this film, and yet elected for its mayor the woman who played Brian's girl friend. Complete with a brief nude scene. Just.... DAMN!

And yet some would paint Americans as being responsible for all the evils and stupidities in this world. I've read that if the British postal authorities don't care for your "taste", you'll never receive the package.

"He's not the messiah - he's a very naughty boy"

I don't think anyone would go so far as to say 'all'.

Wales is the "Bible Belt" of the UK with a strong Methodist tradition of puritanism and chapel.

Life of Brian is the best Python film IMO. I was very disappointed that the DVD didn't include the gondola travelogue.

Well just finished watching it on Blu Ray. Amazing how great it looked knowing it's several decades old... the transfer looks great. Cleese looked so young!!!!

I can understand the ban after watching it. It's very provocative based on today's American standards. I can only imagine what 20 years ago it appeared like. I know Europe is ahead of us in gay rights, etc.... but I see where this could get a Methodist's panties in a bunch. I could hear my mom calling it filth in my conscience... and she's Methodist.... so go figure.

That letter has to be for the "Holy Grail" not "Life of Brian"

(the date and 'I fart in your general direction' give it away)

But it is rather amusing, fortunately they left it at AA (Adult Audience)

Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' was marketed in Sweden as "The film that is so funny, it was banned in Norway."
