Now you've got me curious. I've still yet to have gone to Ireland, and have always considered it very conservative. I realize much of the law is under the U.K., and E.U..... but who is more conservative in your opinion, Ireland or the U.S.?
The USA without doubt. Ireland was held back by the Catholic Church, but in the last decade the church has lost a huge amount of influence. Ireland was a very socially repressive state due to the influence of the church, but the population is a lot more enlightened. The USA is a secular state but the population (or at least a large proportion of it) is socially repressed (and repressing)
Ireland had a brief flirt with supply side economics (you may remember how thesumofyourfears lauded Ireland for lowering business taxes) which resulted in a disastrous deficit for them. Since then they've become a lot more Keynesian.
