My wife and I are breaking new ground tomorrow in a trip to Disney World. We, obviously, have been there many times. But a couple of new twists for us this time: We're taking a guest with us -- my sister, to be precise -- so that's the first time we've tried taking someone to WDW outside our "nuclear" family. Second, we're staying in a 2-bedroom apartment, which strictly speaking is overkill, but we didn't want our guest to be sleeping on a bloody hide-a-bed. And finally, we're taking advantage of a service we only discovered a few weeks ago: a grocery store in town that delivers grocery orders to our resort.

Since we're only staying 4 nights, and didn't want to waste the money for a rented car that won't be used most of that time, we were a bit stumped as to how to get groceries into our room when we're flying in and staying on the property. Turns out several services that offer to help. We picked Garden Grocer. This was our choice because my sister is insisting on cooking a meal for us at least once while we're there, and of course, we are planning to have breakfast in the room before heading out for adventures. They deliver for $14, and prices are pretty reasonable. Further, they offer to deliver to our resort's bell services so we don't actually have to be there when the stuff arrives. Cool, huh?

I'll report later to tell how things worked out. Will be back in town Thursday night. Can't afford a full week of vacation, while I'm not fully employed, you see...

It's sort of hilarious that you posted this. There was a commercial for Extended Stay hotels the other day, and I swear I said out loud "Why do people need a kitchen in a hotel?"... I mean isn't the point of vacationing getting away from it all? Don't Business people make enough money to go somewhere and have someone cook for them?

I then decided the next house I own will have no kitchen.

Well, we are back. Had a pretty good time, but it wasn't the best. I now have vivid proof that my diabetes is a bigger problem than I thought, so I gotta get to work fixing that. And on Disney's side of things, they were in the process of fixing things up for the "high season" after Memorial Day. And to be frank, the area known as Downtown Disney was a bitter disappointment in regards to shopping and entertainment. We had a nice lunch there, but that was pretty well it.

Regarding the grocery store delivery, things went very well indeed. The material was delivered on time, to our resort's bell service, and they then sent me a text message to let me know it was ready for delivery to the room. If I ever go back for another stay at Disney World, we'll absolutely use them again.

Gotta get the diabetes back under control again, lose a good amount of weight, first. If there are any further developments on THAT front... Well, we shall see.

Well I'm at Myrtle tonight, Redneck Disneyland. Too damn tired to go out after an evening at the pool with the kids. We ordered pizza. Life is so different on this side of the Atlantic. Though I didn't request it, we have a room with a fridge and oven.... LOL.

Fridges and microwaves are becoming more standard equipment than ever before. Bad eating habits for the whole nation, most likely.

I don't mind having a place to keep sodas cool, as it's much cheaper than the vending machine, but, I've never used an oven in a hotel. Who goes to Myrtle and says "I'm going to bake a turkey?"
