What is with these horrible movies lately? First I watched Leap Year, which made me wish I was never born, now Karate Kid the remake? They couldn't have made a worse movie if they tried.

I won't bore you with what the movie is about but basically if you've seen the original, take that, shrink Will Smith down to the age 12 (and give him corn rows in his hair) and take out all the good parts- you have the new Karate Kid. Yep take away the crane kick, Mr Miyagi, the romance, the girl, the crazy guy in the final scene giggling like a hyena.

This is a movie that never should have gotten made in the first place. It's a movie that feels more like a self-promotion reel for Jaden Smith to display the fact Will can afford karate lessons for him. (Will's name is in the credits as a producer.) If fact the only one with credibility in this film, Jackie Chan can't act worth crap to begin with, and never really gets to do what he's actually good at: fight sequences- minus one minor scene.

But I'm not the only one who is upset at this mockery of an American film which reached a height of Americanism only a few can claim. (the original) What the f' were the writers smoking when they took "wax on" - "wax off" out of the movie.... really, is it cute to mess with stuff like this? This isn't owning your rendition, it's butchering something that was perfect. Destroying millions of 30 year old's childhood memories.

Others agree:

Daniel Mrvica I wanna see Ralph Macchio "take jacket off" and sufficate that little wannabe. "Daniel-Son" will always be remebered as the true Karate Kid. "wax on wax off"

Manny Fresshh frak THIS MOVIE... IT MAKES ME WANT TO KICK BABIES AND PUNCH KITTINS. "CHAN I DONT KNOW NO FUCKEN CHAN" MIYAGI TO THE FULLEST...

Johnny I would kick Jade's ass too, so you can't blame the Chinese in this case.

If you really, really want to see a well done remake of The Karate Kid, skip this piece of crap and watch Never Back Down from 2008.... (or just watch the original) and for God sake, someone please keep Will Smith away from my childhood memories!

Hm. My sister and I rarely agree on movies. Though when I showed he "V for Vendetta" and "The Matrix," she heartily agreed that they were good. But now, she has urged me twice to go see "Karate Kid." She thinks it's good entertainment.

Makes me wonder about her. I mean, she's also urged me to see a couple of Bollywood musicals that she got through Nexflix. WTF??

Location: 5th circle of hell -- actually not very crowded at the moment.
It's definitely not as bad as "Leap Year"... but, and a very big but... If you have any sort or memory, or nostalgia for the original you'll be disappointed.
