Google's doodle looks a bit different: instead of the regular primary-colored G-O-O-G-L-E, Big Bird, the giant yellow bird character from the children's television show Sesame Street, is featured front and center.

I haven't watched it in years and it's really not the same as it was during my childhood, but I'm still a fan.

Miss you, Jim Henson.

Out of curiosity, my wife and I looked in on the Street while on our latest vacation. We were rather disappointed that the first 10 minutes of the time slot was taken up with ads for all the sponsors. Bloody de-funding of public broadcasting...

Sanjuro found this counterpoint view on Sesame Street. Apparently, these people are "communists." All because of a clever play on words. Was Lenin this subtle?

I'm confused. This is up today:

Maybe they meant it's Sesame Street's unbirthday?

(No, 'dippy didn't bother checking to see what's the deal)

Before you are introduced to the characters from Sesame Street you are handed a list of rules and suggestions - the sort of thing you are given before meeting members of a royal family.

Some of the puppet protocol is obvious enough - you are politely discouraged from attempting to establish if Bert and Ernie are gay - but some is a little more subtle. cite

also some other neat facts:

5. The BBC rejected Sesame Street in 1971 because it was "too authoritarian".

6. Elmo's favourite food is wasabi .

Apparently FOX News now has Sesame Street in their witch hunt sights for a show they made two years ago where they called POX News 'a Trashy News show'

The Wingnuts are on board.

The program also poked fun at GNN, Walter Cranky, Dan Rather-Not, Meredith Beware-a and Diane Spoiler.

Stand by for some big lawsuits, Oscar will be sued for every last banana peel he owns and will be out on the street living in a garbage can ... Oh wait?

Watched a few minutes of Fox last night during the Health Care countdown... seemed like armageddan was occurring...

That might be a commie plot as well. Getting kids interested in math... leads to logic, which is evil, of course.
