Toy Story Double Feature

by SouthernFriedInfidel | Published on October 12th, 2009, 12:43 pm | Arts
Went out with my family to watch the Toy Story/ Toy Story 2 double feature in 3-D over the weekend. It had been a while since I saw either film, so it was great to watch these wonderful films with fairly fresh eyes. And to get them in digital 3-D was a very nice bonus indeed.

For those who haven't seen these films -- I suppose there might be a few -- get out and see them. They are classics that put Pixar among the top studios of the animation world.

But seeing them with the 3-dimensional treatment was a very cool bonus. For ONCE, it was nice to see a movie in 3-D that wasn't originally MEANT for 3-D. There are no sight gags to make stuff jump out at the audience at all. Instead, the fully-realized dimensionality is ever present and helps the audience view the movie as a true world like our own. Minus the constant barrage of spears, knives, and baseballs all apparently aimed straight at our skulls.
The intermission of 10 minutes was a lot of fun as well. Lots of neat stuff was presented in a light, fun manner that you could walk in or out of without worrying that you were missing anything vital. Overall... a terrific entertainment experience. Though not really one to take a fidgety toddler out for. If you have one... spring for a baby sitter for the afternoon. Seriously, it's nearly 3 hours.

This is something Ive really wanted to see.. Im afraid it will be gone before I get the chance too though.

Oh, incidentally I thought "Up" didn't have sight gags based on the 3-D novelty. Again, that's Pixar for ya I guess.

It's definitely worth it. The entire experience is just under 3 hours... so it's like watching Transformers, without anything sucking.

I seem to recall a couple of minor gags, but yeah, it was a beautiful production, far superior to most stuff out there.

I'm just trying to picture SFI watching Toy Story.... turning to some snotty 14 year old kid in the middle of movie and proving the fallacies of talking toys.
This is our chance to change things, this is our destiny.

HA!! Where Disney is concerned, SFI sees no fallacies.

Um no -- the writers make suspending disbelief pretty easy. Though I had some issues with "Up," I let it slide because of the characters.
