Danica Patrick
Lately one particular IRL (Indy Racing League) driver has been everywhere. On commercials, on TV, on search queries on search engines, Danica Patrick, Indy's first successful female driver is taking the the world by storm. I am by no means a motorsports fan, so for someone like me to take notice is certainly a indication of how much work Danica's manager is getting her.
But with all this success, is motorsports racing like Indy Car, and Nascar doomed to be a female sport? I mean sexy drivers, fast cars, and tons of high speed Viagra ads, that could certainly draw every trailer-park dad out of the mobile home and into the speedways. More importantly does Danica Patrick equate to more female viewers, race attenders, and merchandise purchasing from the female population. Perhaps we females now have the perfect idol, in what currently is a male sport? It's name? Danica Patrick
"I need to beat them, belittle them and make them feel small. Trying to run them off the road at 170 mph isn't sweet and kind." -Danica Patrick, on her feelings towards her competition.
Danica Patrick has been described as determined, and stubborn, and at 5'2" and only 100LBS most people think shes a force to be reckoned with not only on the track but also in the competitive profiteering of obtaining sponsors.
Could Indy Racing quickly become an all female sport based on the appeal of Danica Patrick? Maybe someday instead of men yelling the age old phrase when being cut off in traffic "must be a woman driver", they'll say "Wow, great cornering."
