Me too. If you fry cheese in a small pan and then carefully lift it out with a spatula and lay it over a bowl as a mold, you can make a crispy edible salad bowl to impress your dinner guests

Grate cheese and load the pan

Fry until the cheese spreads to fill the pan and the fat separates

Carefully lift the cheese cookie and mold over bowl

When it's cooled turn over

And fill with salad (and chorizo)

Not a terribly inspiring salad, but you get the idea. It goes nicely with mayo rather than dressing

Yummm! Thank you AP. Homemade is aways better than having to pay $7 for a shipped in version of the snack sized disc.

I think you could use a used tire... and it would still taste good.... but then we'd have to call it an Italian grilled cheese.

I'm okay with that. I have a thing for Italy anyway. I fantasize about that place like you fantasize about France. LOL

I like that cheese bowl too. I'll have to try that one when my MIL comes down this month. She'll be so impressed!

I found it had cooled a bit when I tried to mold it over the cold bowl and you can see it cracked a little I think if I lay it over the bowl and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds it would drape more smoothly and without cracking. I was going to try it but I'm out of cheese

I think I started with Italy... though indirectly... started when I watched "Under the Tuscan Sun", I'm quite sure once I actually visit there, I'll be equally smitten.

OK I tried the microwave thing and it didn't work. The cheese stuck to the bowl. So I think the important thing is just to do the molding quickly.

So we were watching Anthony Bourdain the other night, and he went to this place in Rome that served cheese bowls with pasta in it... Shan got excited... and the next night she made some. Very good. Highly recommend:
