How Do You Unstick a Song?

I don’t know if it’s from reading Nfidel’s thread about Halloween, or from listening to The Beatles “A Hard Day’s Night” during the lunchtime errand-running, or something firing in my brain due to this headache that isn’t easing up, but “Song for Ten” from the Doctor Who Original Television Soundtrack popped into my head and I can’t get it out.

Anyway, in an effort to unstuck this song from my head (or to stick it in Liv’s or Sanjuro’s since they’re prolly the only usual suspects around here who might know the song), throw me some lyrics or songs or whatever. You’d think I’d have Beatles on my brain since I actually listened to them earlier, but no… Frakkin’ Neil Hannon.
Song for Ten wrote:
Well I woke up today
And the world was a restless place
It could have been that way for me

And I wandered around
And I thought of your face
That Christmas looking back at me

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

And I started to walk
Pretty soon I will run
And I'll come running back to you

'Cause I followed my star
And that's what you are
I've had a merry time with you

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

So have a good life
Do it for me
Make me so proud
Like you want me to be
Where ever you are
I'm thinking of you oceans apart
I want you to know

Well I woke up today and you're on the other side
Our time will never come again
But if you can still dream
Close your eyes it will seem
That you can see me now and then

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

I wish today was just like every other day
'Cause today has been the best day
Everything I ever dreamed

The only way I've found is to get another one stuck in there.

I've been going round humming the "Nickel song" for days.

It seems to me that very often it's the songs you don't like that get stuck, so how about this one:

All stupid ideas pass through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is ridiculed. Third, it is ridiculed

Speaking of Doctor Who....

Hands down... "Doomsday" is my favorite on that CD.... Followed by "the Doctor's theme"... ....which was really cool to watch when they did that Proms concert on that last DVD.....

Torchwood has a much better soundtrack IMO though...

There's nothing like breaking some major speeds Torchwood style to "Captain Jack's Theme" or "The Chase"

Loooooooooooooooooooove Doomsday. The kids heard the soundtrack without seeing the episode and said it sounded sad. I was like, "If you only knew..."

On the way home from the store this evening...

I'm your biggest fan, I'll follow you until you love me
Papa, paparazzi
Baby, there's no other superstar, you know that I'll be
Your papa, paparazzi

Reminds me of "Seinfeld" with George singing his last name "CoooooSTANza" to the tune "Byyyyy Mennen." You hate it but danged repetition just drills and drills and makes it stick.

Your title reminded me of this song. A-well-a-pa-pa-ooma-mow-mow, you crazy cats. It's the Surfin' Bird.
In the early 60s I would listen to an aunt's 45s. You know those big black vinyl CDs with the big hole in the center. My favorites were Surfin Bird and Little Red Riding Hood.

I got in the car this morning to go to CVS (one of the young'uns has a fever :( ) and what was on the radio? "Papa, paparazzi..." ... and for whatever reason, I didn't even bother changing the station. Thank goodness it didn't stick, but unfortunately I thought of this thread, and damn you, AP! "this is the song that doesn't eeeeeeeeend..."

I forgot to mention - new song stuck in my head. Thanks to Mad Men episode from last night, Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World" is what I fell asleep to and popped back into my head while brushing my teeth this morning.

Meant to mention that we got on the email list of the Halloween store out near Costco last week. It said that the store was having a last minute clearance sale. 50% off.

The thing that was amusing: It said that the clearance was "for Halloween merchandise ONLY."

Really random today... and no clue what triggered this. "Last Christmas"... But at least it's Wham!/George Michael in my head and not Ashley Tisdale. It's not even the whole song, just bits and pieces popping up:

Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

...

(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again

...

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Oooh Oooh
Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again

...

I've got you here to stay
I can love you for a day
I thought you were someone special
gave you my heart
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
last christmas I gave you my heart
you gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

I think most of those phrases, I like the melody more than the lyrics. That's kind of how I feel about a song from a few years ago... musically it was really nice, but the lyrics were so frakkin whiney (Hoobastank "The Reason").
