Anyone Do Major Custom Crochet work?

by Liv | Published on January 3rd, 2009, 8:51 pm | Life
I have been dieing to buy a full-length crochet duster for about 10 years now, but I've yet to find one in stores, or online. For all my wonderful skills, crocheting isn't one of them, and honestly I have no clue how difficult it would be for someone to create one, but I figure someone might be able to do it, or know someone willing.... Just let me know the price....

I want sleeve like this:

Length and style below the waist like so: (coincidence of picture... is really just odd as it happened to be randomly the first one found with the style I like)

Sort of the pattern I'm looking for:

Congratulations on your diet. Your best bet would be to go to a yarn shop and ask the owners if any of their customers might be available for hire. Yarn shops are few and far in between. Any good yarn addict is bound to frequent them. Once you find someone to contract, you can both look for a pattern. Better yet, learn to crochet and make it yourself. Good luck.

Do you want a long ( all the way to your ankles) jacket/coat or knee or calf-length duster? Would knitted be acceptable or must it be crocheted?

If a pattern can be found that's close to what you want, that would make things easier- otherwise you're looking at reverse-engineering a pattern based on the photos.

If someone makes it for you, you would need to cover costs of materials ( good yarn is NOT cheap) plus $ for their time ( which no one who knits or crochets ever actually makes from such projects. If they could bill a fair rate for all the hours put in, the cost would be incredibly high!) plus a fee for drafting a custom pattern which looks like what you want and also is tailored to fit you.) I would expect most would charge at least $200 PLUS the materials.

Knit is fine... (honestly I know not what the funk I'm talking about) ... It's probably going to be all custom, as I've yet to see anything remotely close to what I want....

I want ankle length... That's the toughest part of it all...

I figure I'm going to pay a premium, but I'm happy to pay someone who can do it well...

Might have to pay them $50.00-$100.00 a week till I pay it off, but I doubt it's something, someone is going to knit overnight...

FYI- people who do this sort of work will have you front the cost of the materials plus pay them a deposit. You would probably be expected to sign a contract stating that if you fail to pay as agreed you lose what you've previously paid and may also lose the yarn and other necessary "ingredients" and the craftsperson keeps them and the UFO ( unfinished object.)

I sort of gave up on this... ended up buying one retail, but I don't like it... has a huge fluffy collar...

I'm sure now that it gets cooler, I'll start getting the itchin to look again...

Try to picture it without the scarf as a part of the design- . It would have an open neck that could stay open or be buttoned- - - and for the other two; the red one without fringe and in a solid color and the other in just a different color.
Any closer to what you'd want?
