Private Ice Skating Rink.

My Boss came to town today. Not my little boss... The Big Man. CEO, God of company. It was like Christmas and we were all on our best behavior. I refrained from carrying out my plan for complete anarchy on the call floor. I figured, I'd let him have his day. He showed up like a Rockstar, and everyone caught a glimpse of the million dollar man. Although I never got close enough for me to touch his clothes. I kept yelling "Kiss my Baby" thinking this was supposed to be a Presidentialesque visit. Most people thought it was some horrible sex joke. A few hours here and there and the man is gone, left on a jet plane.

Ironically I get a call later that day to our antelope valley plant out in California. Start talking to another soldier and she informs me that "The Man" came out there a few months back. Said they got to do a QA, where he divulged he had just built a "Ice Skating Rink" in his backyard for his kids. I can barely afford to put food on the table, and my kids get "Free Lunch" while his kids are casually sliding around an ice-skating rink in 90 degrees.

I made $60.00 in a bonus last year, he made 1.6 million.

I'm upset.

But why aren't most people? Why doesn't the 250+ people I work with not attack him, pin him down, and beat the crap out of him? What makes this okay? Is it the false hope, that we too might accomplish something so great as to obtain a Private Ice Skating Rink? Do we endorse it because we want it, or is it we just don't care? Or what? If I'd known others were with me, I'd atleast have stolen his wallet.

It's not envy... atleast not in the way you're thinking...

I wouldn't want a darn ice-skating rink in my backyard even if I did have the money.

In fact, what I'm stating here, is because of most peoples envy, we allow idiotic situations like this occur. So many people assume they'll win the lotto tomorrow, or discover the "next best thing" which will lead them to riches, they believe people like this "nut job" are Okay, because one day they'll be joining the ranks of the wealthy.

In reality, most of us won't.

All I'm saying is it should be a crime that "this guy" can make this kind of money, and live in such a manner at the expense of people like myself who are forced to deal with rising health care that the company isn't willing to pay for, the lack of cost of living increases despite the fact we all know it does cost more these days. If my employer was a good steward to it's employees and cared for them rather than making us take wage reductions, health care increases, and doubled, and tripled workloads in order to carry a company that's miserably going to fail.

I'd say it's more jaded, then envy.

Hell, I'd settle to have the money to go Ice Skating.
