The latest fad in advertising....

So, I was reading something online about millionaires under 25 and the guys who started a company called Aarrow Advertising were on the list. The guys at Aarrow Advertising are the "Original Sign Spinners." Appearantly these guys have taken the sandwich board idea to a whole new level. Instead of having someone with a blank look on their face standing on the corner with a card board sign for some furniture liquidation sale, they get these guys to spin an arrow shaped sign around and dance (and act like they have no sense) to drum up some traffic to the business they are advertising.

This trend has now made its way down to the Dirty South. I first saw one of these dudes on a corner in Knightdale bouncing around with his KB Homes arrow at the beginning of the year. I thought he was just clowning around to pass time. Then I started seeing more of these sign spinners popping up on various street corners. Looks pretty silly to me.

Now, I was a marketing major in school, so spare me the whole sanctamoneous business school riff.... "You gotta make your product stand out to get customers." I get it and I realize that the founders are laughing all the way to the bank. But hey, if it's in the name of capitalism and if it helps keep someone "employed" while showing of their talent, or lack there of, then I guess I should learn to live with this.

Is this another example of society's trend of shameless self promotion? Is this a revolutionary idea? Or merely repackaging of an existing product? Your thoughts and observations....

Wow that's impressive.... much better than "our" homeless people on Holden road. I'm wondering though if you can hold them liable if you get in a wreck by observing this performance advertising art?
