New Math? syllogism

1) let a = b
2) multiply both sides by a
3) subtract b2 from both sides
4) factorise (a-b) from both sides
5) divide both sides by (a-b)
6) since a=b, substitute a for b
7) therefore 2a = a or 2 = 1?

So what's wrong with this math? Or is it that Christian worldview refusing to let Atheistic mathematics borrow it.

I love that syllogism. I came across it in high school, and it took me a few minutes to see where things "go wrong." Still, the lesson was worth the effort.

I seem to recall seeing a student teacher giving my class another one, that he said "proved" that any given number is equal to any other number, but I was unable to follow that one... it was far longer.

Location: 5th circle of hell -- actually not very crowded at the moment.
