MS Powerpoint

by Matt | Published on September 25th, 2007, 7:15 pm | Life
I don't have Powerpoint at home and my son has a project using it at school so I'd like to get a copy. But Don't want to shell out $110 for one stinking piece of software.

Is there an open-source version of it somewhere? I don't know much about that stuff.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of PP for cheap? Older versions are fine. Just has to be Win XP compatible. I found a copy of PP 97 for a reasonable price. Is says Window 2000 compatible. That should work on XP, correct?

There are no 3rd party presentation packages that are completely compatible with MS Office. Open Office Is an excellent package by itself and fairly compatible. The price ($0) is right too.

When installing older MS Office components with a newer version of Office you may have issues with DLL compatibility. What version of Office do you have installed now?

I did say 'may'. I have run several PCs with older versions of Access coexisting with newer versions of Office. In those cases we installed the old software first and then the newer version.

By all means try it, but take a good backup first - making sure you have the DLL's in the office and Windows directories backed up. Then you will be able to get back. If it asks you if you want to overwrite a newer DLL say no and make a note of the DLL.

Well... he is home
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second,it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

I guess Microsoft have changed the licensing. They used to have a "Student/Educational' license that was for students only. The "Home and Student" version only has a 'non-commercial' restriction, you don't have to be a student - and it can be installed on three PC's so it's not a bad deal although why they don't include Outlook I can't imagine. I have have a tablet and really like OneNote.

I know people who bought the 'Educational" license when they weren't entitled - I had to wonder why. If you don't meet the license terms, you're not licensed, you might as well just steal it and save all your money.

They have another bundle for like $30 more where it has Outlook instead of OneNote. I think it's just called "Office Pro".

I haven't even read about the functionality of OneNote and what it does.
