Cellular dead zones

by SouthernFriedInfidel | Published on August 22nd, 2007, 12:03 pm | Life
My wife says she's tired of dropping calls while driving down West Vandalia, between Holden and Groomtown. Our current service is with AT&T, and that's the only dead zone for cell phone coverage that we know of in the Greensboro area.

I'm wondering whether there are similar dead zones that Verizon or Sprint customers have experienced in town. Any other complaints you care to share, for us to consider if we think of switching services?

I'm with Virgin, which I think uses Sprint, and I lost calls alot on the 85/220 connecting ramp. But overall, pretty good service.

Verizon seems pretty good all over the place. My friend has T-mobile and gets spotty service at best.

I take it he doesn't have a local number, right? Because T-Mobile as far as I know is only roaming in NC, right?

Yup, shes from Boston. However I think its some kind of 'no roam' plan or something. Locked into a contract I think.

Yeah, I want T-mobile's hotspot at home thing, but I'd have to sign up like I'm living somewhere else and have it sent to a relative....

I forgot who their roaming carrier is here, but it's some local small time operation If I remember right.

I have Verizon and the coverage is pretty good. It's much better than Alltel's coverage downtown.

Coming down the big hill on Wendover near the hospitals, park, and tennis courts (near where the sink hole formed) I run into some trouble now and again.

OOooh that's interesting. Now that you mention it, I did too with my old Verizon phone. My newer one doesn't seem to drop there anymore. Interesting.

I looked on the way home today and it got down to 1 bar on the top and 2 on the bottom. My phone is about 4 months old.
