You may remember we got our Dog Savannah from the Guilford County Pet Shelter about a year ago. She's turned out to be a pretty good dog. The cats and her still fight, but we've relaxed enough to realize it's never gotten deadly, and they generally give up on their own.

We even discovered that Savannah can roll over. It was funny. One night out of the blue, I said "Savannah ROLL OVER!" and she did! It was the coolest. Especially since I never had a dog that could do that. Savannah does however have a few traits we're not to fond of. One is she likes to steal food off of plates. Just last night she came over, picked up my whole plate in her mouth and ran off with it. The other problem is she eats Cat crap. Yes Poo, (expletive), or whatever else you'd like to call it.

She'll come over and give you a big wet kiss that leaves kitty litter on your arm. It's the grossest thing ever. At first we couldn't figure out why the cats weren't defecating at all... the litter box was always clean. Now we've figured out that Savannah had been eating the cat poo.

Supposedly it's normal. I even googled it, and I guess we're going to try and buy a kitty box with a roof to stop her. It's become such an interesting dilemma, you can actually tell her state of mind changes when she eats the cat crap. It literally makes her high. It's really odd. She gets all whacked out and crazy and freaks out at about any noise. She become paranoid. A few hours later, she comes down, and is back to a fairly normal, mellow dog.

I have a friend that, at the time, had a wiener dog. I remember at a new-years party seeing it wander into the bathroom and rooting around in the then full litter box. I didn't know about the hallucinigen effects that it gave to the dog. I have heard of this gormet coffee where they feed the beans to this certain breed of cat and then someone goes through the crap and picks the beans out for brewing. I haven't actually verified this info though....

Here's an actual article that's been on DP before, about racoon poop coffee.

You are referring to the Civet Cat and the coffee goes by different names - caphe cut chon (fox-dung coffee) in Vietnam or Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) in Indonesia.

Apparently a lot of the coffee sold as civet coffee isn't and there are no laws to control how much has to pass through the cat to be called civet coffee. It's also extraordinarily expensive. I had some once in Jakarta and frankly it tasted like ... coffee - at $25 a cup (I was on expenses)
