A Tribute to Those Who Serve

by BrendaBee | Published on February 16th, 2007, 12:27 pm | Life
Whether you are for or against the United States' involvement in Iraq is beside the point. Those who have chosen to serve their country and sworn to protect their countrymen are heroes, one and all. Tho not a one would consider that appellation appropriately applied to them. They are simply doing the job they have chosen to do. And they do it for love because there certainly is no glory or glamour or money in being a soldier. This is a tribute to them:

No, it's not beside the point. If the war is wrong, and those who serve do so willingly, then they are not heros. That would make them immoral, wouldn't it? I'm tired of hearing that I must support the troops, no matter what. I will support them on a person to person basis but not as a group, or I would be supporting the ones who torture and murder along with good ones.

You wrote that
They are simply doing the job they have chosen to do. And they do it for love.
The tens of thousands of Iraqis who've died, died as a direct result of soldiers "simply doing the job", "for love"?

Are you saying that only politicians and Generals are responsible for civilian deaths? To me a hero is one who actually risks their life for another, not just someone who puts themselves in a situation where that could happen. I'm not devalueing anyone's bravery by saying this, but you are devalueing the term hero when you apply it so loosely.

I also understand that the military builds their units so that each man feels responsible for protecting his buddies. I understand what a great responsibility that is. Still, at some point a hero will have to stand up, within the active military and say enough is enough.

Here is a video that makes a good point:

I believe this quote at the bottom of your comment speaks to who and what your are.

"Only the fool says in his heart: There is no god -- The wise say it to the world"

Why? If you wanted to post what you did and get no responses, well, too late. If you do not or cannot respond to what I wrote, fine. That's your right. To imply that my signature means I'm not worthy for some reason, to comment, is just wrong.

I think I proffered some valid points about innocents being killed and about the morality of blindly supporting the people killing them. But if you don't care to respond to my post, well that's just exercising you rights as an American. My signature is me exercising my freedom of religion. I'm saddened for us all if that bothers you.

To summarily discount everything someone says solely on their lack of beLIEf in your god is the height of intolerance.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you "choose" to respond to it.

I don't know about that but the reverse is certainly true.

To summarily discount everything someone says solely on their belief in god is the height of intolerance.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second,it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
