Getting wisdom teeth removed SUCKS!

by Sanjuro | Published on January 23rd, 2007, 7:55 am | Life
Okay, so I recently (Friday) had wisdom teeth removed (along with 4 others to make room for orthodontia) and I gotta say its gotta be the most prolonged hell I've been through.

Anybody else have these things out later in life? I'm no teenager. Apparently kids have an ability to bounce right back.

Now I've had surgeries before, broken bones, etc... But these bloody bastards are a pain in the arse! When oh when does the disgustingness end? :) To add insult to injury I get braces on Thursday. Shoot me now.

supposedly I haven't gotten mine yet. But I had a dentist who worked in the ghetto over by a&t...

For some reason I'm getting a picture of John Lennon with braces....

My condolences. I still have my wisdom teeth and I'm not young. Fortunately mine haven't caused me any problems either.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second,it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Fortunately I never had any wisdom teeth.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you "choose" to respond to it.

I had to wear headgear as a kid. It was to pull my overbite in. Headgear is an appliance that slowly pulls all your teeth toward the back of your head. A pain to wear, figuratively and litterly.

But they wanted me to continue to wear it with the threat that they'd have to pull some teeth. At the time, I knew about wisdom teeth. The x-rays showed them present but not "coming in".

I asked "If we continue to pull the teeth back, that would put them over the path of the wisdom teeth, wouldn't it?" My parents and dentist got very mad at the question.

I ended up getting 2 teeth extracted because I didn't wear the headgear enough and there wasn't room for all my teeth. My wisdom teeth came in and fit perfectly with no pain. Still have have them at 36.

I feel your pain. While I had no problems after having two of my wisdom teeth removed, another tooth extraction went horribly wrong. Two of the three roots broke and they had grown into my sinuses , leaving an opening from there to my mouth. Not a good thing, evidently, so off I go to the oral surgeon. It's a crime that an oral surgeon is allowed to use the type of large horsepower power tools they fit into your mouth. Maybe that's why they are so liberal with the Vicodan scripts.

The last time at the oral surgery dungeon, I was given a script for 12 Vicodan with one refill. I happily took them as prescribed, one every six hours as needed. I felt I needed them every six hours. Anyway, I soon called in the refill only to find I could not have it until a full week had passed. Some one should have warned me.

Hope you heal soon.

Well, after days of pain (and I mean PAIN), not to mention secretion of the WORST tasting and smelling fluid I've ever experienced, I knew there was a real problem. I went back yesterday and sure enough I have a pretty bad infection. So I hopped up on some antibiotics, had a fiberous material soaked in clove oil inserted into the newly formed holes in my jaw, and today my pain is almost completely gone.

I go back Monday for a followup and will find out later today if the appt to add braces is still on or not.

sigh...
