Billboard Comedy

Last week Poppin's Pondering'sPosted a question about the "I Pooted" Billboards in & around Greensboro. It happened to be one of those posts I assumed was about Kim's children making a fecal mess. Then it was brought up on the radio the other day, and suprisingly no one knew what the billboards were for.

As most of us know by now the I pooted billboards are apart of a marketing campaign by Cartoon Network.
More importantly it's a tag line of one of the characters in the animated series "Foster's home for imaginary friends. Besides the I pooted billboard, other sightings across the country have been seen all apart of a multi-million dollar advertising venture:

"Look, I have a meat beard." -Camp Lazlo
"Pretty pretty. shiny shiny." -My Gym Partner's a Monkey
"Clowns hate tangelos." -The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
"I’m a hot toe picker." -Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
"My boogers itch." -???
"The hat sells the sandwich." -Squirrel Boy

If that isn't enough, the I pooted campaign isn't over. This is phase one to be followed by television, cinema, and mall advertising.

Still not enough? This whole campaign is to kick off Cartoon's network exclusive toy deal with Mattel who will develop and sell toys based on the characters from these cartoons. Get ready parents, because "I pooted" is about to become apart of your child's vocabulary.

How funny.. I just googled that. I just saw one of those coming home from the studio late tonight. I had to bite my lip to make sure I was awake, because I tend to fall asleep a bit on that drive. 8)

Thanks for clearing this up mere minutes after I had the question.

An awesome promotion from Cartoon Network. Great Network, great show... it's from "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends". The demographic for this show is about 5-29 (even though I'm a tad older)
No, I don't work there... wish I did! Just a HUGE FAN of "Cheese"(the character this billboard depicts)

Matt collected a series of Billboards to put you in the Christmas spirit. Create your own byline and those hours of data entry may go by quicker.

I show you something fantastic and you find fault.

The best sign I've actually seen myself was out in California while I was still a truck driver. I saw a sign that said "Lodging-Next Right". Right underneath it was a smaller sign. It simply said "State Prison".
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you "choose" to respond to it.

I once was amused by a sign on an empty lot that said "Clean dirt wanted."

Then there was the time that someone set up a temporary fireworks stall on MLK drive near the interstate. They put their sign right next to a sign that said "For rent," so that at first glance, you would read "Fireworks - For rent."

Driving home from the News & Record sponsored event at the Children's Museum tonight, I couldn't help but notice, someone felt it quite necessary to advertise on Martin Luther King Drive, our national money motto.

Umm...

Don't get it.

Explain it to me?

Well since you asked so nicely. The more insecure someone is in their position, the louder they must yell it.

Kind of says it all. On a side note, I can never help but wonder why these wealthy Christians who do this sort of crap never seem to be bothered by the fact that the money they spend on advertising God in the South might have actually been better spent on helping poor people pay for heat in the winter or send their kids to college... you know, something WORTHWHILE.

You're telling me?? For the money they spent on that would have been MUCH better put to use at a local fire station, school, or shelter. These people are insane.

I've been driving past that billboard for YEARS. Whoever paid to put it up, they're also paying to renew the lease on it on a constant basis.

Amazing how upset you guys get when people express their opinion. Wew are still allowed to do that in this country aren't we?

Not having a problem with anyone merely expressing an opinion. Its the fact that there is a tremendous and blatant hypocrisy at work while at the same time ridiculous overcompensation.

Dude, we aren't saying that speech should be stifled. We're saying that someone who spends that kind of money on advertising God should be ashamed of himself.

Would you say this sign could be reworded "If You're American then You Believe in God?"

Isnt' that the same thing?

I mean...

There is definitely a patriotic, "I'm American" tone using the national phrases.

It's suggestive that "Our country is based on Christian values." because it combines the two.

It also mildly suggests (in my opinion) that if you're "not christian" then you're "not American"

I think the meaning they are trying to convey is that as Christians we are united. I think reading any more into that is just being chciken little.

Then why didn't it say that? Why did it purposely evoke messages from the republic?

Food for thought:

http://americanhistory.si.edu/1942/camp ... ign24.html

Keep in mind "United we Stand" was borrowed from a fable, and used heavily in the USA for propaganda.. this stuck and became common vernacular. While I agree that this group borrow any phrase for their own uses, the fact it is that within the USA they would be well aware of the blatant reference and should have found a better phrase for their needs.

So only Christians are united, and no one else counts; you guys aren't interested in being united with us "heathens." Is that how you read the message?
