Sort of a bummer that the marriage thing got shot down in Maine last night... But you know, ceremonies can be done any time you can arrange them, if you get willing folks to perform them. It just is a matter of deciding what is an acceptable venue that's properly romantic.
For instance, a friend of my wife's recently had a wedding ceremony at dawn in a town square in Savannah. It was just the couple, a minister, and a bunch of homeless folks who were hanging around. The homeless folks presented the couple with little presents they had on them (some of them sell hand-woven trinkets made of palmetto fronds) and they shared breakfast biscuits with the attendees. Pretty cool stuff, I think.
Then there are the folks who go in for back yard ceremonies like my sister and her husband. Others go to their favorite beach. Myself, I'd be keen on a mountain top. To each his own, I think.
Funny thing was, when we got married, it seemed a bit unreal to me. We had a piece of paper that said we were married, but I didn't feel really that much different. Didn't feel truly married until much later. Meh...
