Hola Lady of Arabia

Today at work a customer of mine needed some assistance. Due to an injured leg she was shopping using a motorized scooter cart. She was a beautifully olive complected lady who seemed to be a little confused while picking out a cake. I came out of the bakery to help her where we ran into a language barrier. We were getting no where speaking English so I made an assumption and tried to break out my best ramblings in Spanish. Finally, SUCCESS! She seemed to understand me well enough that I clearly understood she wanted me to write on the cake. Feeling victorious and impressed with myself for my wicked "broken" language skills I started to inscribe the cake. With my pretty inflated ego I gave her the option of the message written in English or Spanish. She started giggling and replied "I'm Arabic". Totally embarrassed I was like "Um, I don't know that one". I offered to write it with her help but then she said that English would be fine. My little lesson proves to me two things: never make assumptions and that Latin is such an important language used all over the world.
