Yep -- things haven't changed much since I was a kid..... :evil:

Great photos Liv, but I have a couple comments. First, I remember seeing these before at the photographers website. It's proper to give a link and credit for the photos. On the other hand, if you got them from an email or a post from another site, someone else is at fault and there isn't much you can do. Another reason for the link is so one can read the captions, which in this case added much to the overall story. And I may be mistaken, but I think these photos were from West Virginia, which thinks it's in the south but was actually created by Virginians who were sympathetic to the north.

I found it. The photographer is Carl Kiilsgaard and the series of photos is titled "The White Family". Click on his name above and you'll be taken to his website. In the top right corner of his home page go to "Portfolios" and he has 3 sets of photos about the White Family. And I was wrong, they are from Kentucky. Is that considered a southern state? I think it is. Either way, I think his photos say more about class than geography.

I hope nobody is laughing at these pictures. There are lots of poor folks just like this throughout the country regardless of what state your in and a good many of them have happy homes despite being destitute.

Its very important to remind people that there are many parts of the USA have folks living as if its a 3rd world country. That said, I have the feeling many of these were staged.

Yes, I suppose it is... we try... unfortunately for me they came from a site in Spain with no documentation.. (whom I didn't feel it was necessary to notate as it is obviously not the source). but I'm glad you found it.

Cockfighting isn't restricted to poor folk. I didn't think it was still done in this millennium in civilized countries, but it's very popular among drilling roughnecks - along with dog fights. Lots of money changes hands.
