State tax odyssey

My wife called me today to tell me that our state tax refund arrived in the mail. In a plain white envelope. With a note from the post office. With more money than we had expected.

Seems that our refund was originally stuffed in an envelope along with someone else's check. That person was kind enough to take the extra check to the post office and ask them to re-direct it to the correct folks. Rather nice of them, I thought.

As for the extra cash -- I have said it often enough: I hate these bloody state tax forms. I have NEVER filled them out and performed the required calculations correctly. It's rather odd, though, how in seem to invariably err to the good of the state, and they have invariably corrected my errors and sent me more money.

I guess I need to thank them as well... though I'd much prefer it if they made their bloody forms easier to follow.

Congrats!!! It's now time to file for 2009!
This is our chance to change things, this is our destiny.

I can't imagine what a year of unemployment with no taxation is going to look like next year.... oh, boy.
