Where do I even start on this one? God we are freaking idiots sometimes.

Supposedly Osama is hiding out somewhere in North Carolina, according to a recent billboard campaign. Not only that, but he's trying to get his license. However all Arabs and Muslims are now the center of attention as billboards conjuring up suspicions by unfairly equating them with terrorism are posted in NC. In doing so, the ads utilize false stereotypes and racist rhetoric to promote an anti-immigrant agenda.

North Carolina was chosen as the first state targeted in our billboard campaign, however, because, as every concerned citizen of North Carolina knows, North Carolina has already experienced the reach of terrorism as ground zero for the largest Hezbollah cigarette smuggling operation in the United States. The stated goal of this operation was to fund attacks on the United States and Israel.

The second reason North Carolina was chosen is because it is issuing licenses to undocumented individuals from out of state who cannot get state-issued ID where they live. That black market is well known to law enforcement authorities. The denial of the problem by a North Carolina official commenting for your story represents the triumph of deluded hope over real experience.

Yawn. It's called free speech. Get over it.

How is this any worse that Fitty'Cent's billboard advertising his movie?

The point of this billboard is clear, issuing licenses to those not qualified to get one can lead to problems. Have you forgotten that some of the 9-11 actors (btw, what ethnic group did they belong to?) were undocumented and should have been stopped upon entry and deported?

Self-preservation calls for tough messages sometimes. Until hyper-sensitive liberals, who are so worried about every one else’s feelings, realize we are back in a realpolitik atmosphere, we are in danger.

I'm not saying we should become fascist tomorrow, I am saying the time for sacrificing logic in the name of diversity and sensitivity is over.

I found these statistics from Tolerance.org somewhat disturbing, since we live in one of the most hateful states in the union.

Greensboro is listed as having both Black Separatists, and Neo Nazis, although I'm sure we have some Gay Haters, Hispanic Haters, and many more that isn't listed on the website.

What series of events or experiences leads those people in North Carolina to have a greater likelihood to be one of these groups? Is it education, is it real-life experiences, or is it just that everyone thinks their right, and that everyone else is wrong?

Liv:

NC actually ranks 6th according to a cursory glance at the national map. We are 10th in population, so I don't think being 6th is that disproportionate.

SPLC is a fabulous organization, but I don't see how the Council of Conservative Citizens qualifies as a hate group any more than the NAACP.

According to North Carolina Republicans, Democrats are supporting Terrorism.

This pattern fits roughly one hundred and fifty liberal Democrats in both houses of Congress. Whether purposely or by accident, they support terrorism through the votes they cast.

Now when we see them strap suicide bombs on to their chests, It will be time for me to vote Republican.

I found this by following some of the links you provided Liv. This is the muslim understanding of Democracy.

Ask-Imam.com > Islamic Politics > Question 15522 from South Africa

What is the islamic understanding about democracy, Is there any place for it in islam.
The common form of democracy prevalent at the moment is representative democracy, in which the citizens do not exercise their right of legislating and issuing political decrees in person, but rather through representatives chosen by them. The constitution of a democratic country will be largely influenced by the needs and wants of its people. Thus, if its people want casinos, bars, gay marriages, prostitution, etc. then with sufficient public pressure, all these vices can be accommodated for. From this, it becomes simple to understand that there can never be scope for a democratic rule from the Islamic point of view.

Controversial Assignment Leads To Teacher's Resignation

SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- A Spanish teacher at Smithfield-Selma Senior High School resigned this week after handing out an assignment that some students and parents said teaches hate.

Khalid Chahhou, who was in his first year of teaching in Johnston County, gave students a worksheet in which they were to translate words and find them within a word-search puzzle.

Some students started uncovering strange words in the process.

"There were words like 'kill,' then I saw it said 'destroy America,'" Eric Herrera said.

As they read on, students found the puzzle contained a paragraph that contained the following phrases:

"Sharon killed a lot of innocent people," a possible reference to former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

"Palestine is not a terrorist group."

"Allah help destroy this body of evil making humanity miserable."

"It was kind of scary at first to think about, you know, your own teacher in your own school that is teaching you," Herrera said.

School administrators said they confronted Chahhou about an unidentified concern Wednesday and he resigned.

"The situation surrounding the resignation has prompted us to call the proper authorities," said Crystal Roberts, the spokeswoman for Johnston County Schools.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office reviewed the complaint, but investigators said they don't see any reason to file criminal charges or contact other agencies.

Chahhou, who also teaches Arabic at a religious school affiliated with the Islamic Association of Cary, told WRAL in a telephone interview that students got the wrong message from the assignment.

"When I made the assignment, I was upset and angry about a story I recently saw on the news. If any message appears, it is more of a message to myself, not to my students. I never meant to hurt or upset any students or parents," he said.

They got the wrong message?!? Seems pretty loud and clear to me. Open your eyes people. The war's already here.

That is quite disturbing indeed.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second,it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Warrant cites long planning
Police say Mohammed Taheri-azar had been preparing for weeks to run down students

Jessica Rocha and Jim Nesbitt, Staff Writers
For two months, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar had been planning to drive a rented sport utility vehicle through a lunchtime campus crowd, hitting people, police wrote in a search warrant released Tuesday.
In picking a time and spot teeming with people and a vehicle that could "run over things and keep going," the 2005 UNC-Chapel Hill graduate wanted to inflict serious harm as revenge for the United States "killing his people across the sea," said Detective Matthew Dodson of the UNC-CH Department of Public Safety, according to the warrant.

He even brought two cans of pepper spray and a 5-inch folding knife in case he got trapped or threatened, the warrant said.

Right before noon Friday, police say, Taheri-azar executed his plan, driving a rented Jeep Grand Cherokee through walkways near a campus hub, hitting nine people, though none were seriously injured. Six were treated at UNC Hospitals; three declined treatment.

Taheri-azar called 911 to turn himself in a few minutes later. He is charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

"Taheri-Azar told Dodson it was 'an eye for an eye,' " the warrant stated, adding "he was disappointed there were not more people in the pit when the attack occurred."

In court Monday, Taheri-azar, a native of Iran who grew up mostly in the Charlotte area and is an American citizen, repeatedly mentioned Allah, at one point saying Allah would be his attorney. He is being held at Raleigh's Central Prison in lieu of $5.5 million bail.

According to a former college roommate, Taheri-azar's religious fervor developed relatively recently.

Dan Van Atta said the last time he met with Taheri-azar, "It was as if he had just found religion."

"He was really at peace with himself when I talked with him last," he added.

A student leader

A 2001 yearbook from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte depicted an active teenager involved in sports, volunteerism and academics.

Yearbook pictures show Taheri-azar smiling with short black hair combed over his forehead. Another picture shows the teen racing his Mitsubishi Eclipse at a drag strip in Fayetteville. He was secretary of tutoring for Spanish his senior year and a member of the "Sabres" high school football team. In the ninth grade, he was student council president.

His junior and senior years, Taheri-azar belonged to the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.

School officials declined to talk about the 2001 graduate.

Police seized from Taheri-azar's Carrboro apartment a white envelope containing a letter he wrote, computer equipment, two Navy SEAL Team Combat course videotapes and a gun permit application, among other items.

In his 911 call, Taheri-azar said he left a one-page letter on his bed explaining why he drove through campus aiming his SUV at people. "Really it's to punish the government of the United States for their actions around the world," he said.

In addition to the charges Taheri-azar already faces from the state, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating whether federal charges will be filed against him, said Ken Lucas, FBI spokesman in Charlotte.

The investigation aims to find out "everything about him, his motives and thought process," Lucas said. "We take this very, very seriously, especially this case."

Regardless of whether he is charged with an act of terrorism, one local expert said Taheri-azar's actions theoretically fit the bill.

"Terrorism is an act of violence against non-combatants designed to instill fear for a political purpose," said David Schanzer, director of the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security at Duke University and UNC-CH.

Schanzer said that the actions Taheri-azar is accused of fit that definition.

A politically motivated violent act "in a way is more frightening," he said. "It induces more fear that there might be others that might be so motivated."

There are around seven million muslims in the US. That's a lot of potential radicals.

There are 200 million Christians in America. All of them own Bibles that state that unbelievers are like animals.
2 Pet 2:10(b)-12 - Bold and willful, they are not afraid to slander the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not bring against them a slanderous judgment from the Lord. These people, however, are like irrational animals, mere creatures of instinct, born to be caught and killed.

How frightened are you of that pool of potential radicals?

To be totally honest not very. Christian radicals in America don't go around wanting to kill everybody that doesn't think exactly like them.

So it seems that North Carolina has some jihadis in the woodwork. Or actually... the drywall. These guys sound like pretty unpleasant people, and as full of nuttery as any abortion doctor murderer.

What interests me about this story is the fact that it seem that the evidence gathered against these people was in the form of wiretaps. The story says they were done under the aegis of FISA, but I can't help wondering if this case might run afoul of the Bush administration's "warrantless wiretap" program. If so, you can bet the defense will work to have the evidence discarded. And I have to say, I think such evidence should be tossed out.

It will definitely bear watching, if the media will bother to comply.

Surprises me not. NC has always been a hotbed for "secret' covert illegal activity. Moonshine, marijuana, KKK, Black Panthers, Blackwater, Richard Petty.
