Remember Brenda? Yeah, the wacked out crazy lady who doesn't know Colorado from North Carolina. Got an email this morning from her. I assume someone has hacked her email, but either way I found the email entertaining:

I hope you receive my message? And is very urgent. I could bearly think straight at this point. I had a trip here in United Kingdom on a mission. I am presently in Sheffield and I am having some difficulties. I misplaced my bag on my way to the hotel where other valuable things were kept along with my passport. I feel so ashamed because i am so stranded and idle. I will like you to help me with a loan of 1000pounds to pay my hotel bills and also return back home. I will refund the money to you as soon as I get back, I have spoken to the embassy here but they are not responding to the matter effectively I currently have limited access to emails for now.

Best Regard
Hugs, Lew and Brenda Bowers

If it is real, why would you email me?

LOL... I wouldn't mind getting stranded, honestly, thought about doing it myself... in fact, got it all planned out... going to live in the giant abandoned crane next to the wharf and sell mulled wine at the market....

This is one of the scams scammers from Nigeri :angry-screaming: oops- I mean, all the cool kids - are doing these days. An email address gets hijacked and the emails go out to those in hackee's address book in hopes that somebody will send/wire money to the Nigeri oops - hacker.

in your heart you knew it was a fake- BB has always let everybody know she's a Good American :flags-usa: - and a True American Patriot would request monetary assistance by asking people to send US dollars, not that multicolored cartoon money with a queen's face on it. Or Euros...

People I got hacked somehow. Am in Greensboro, NC. Am so sorry for all this. Trying to contact people and keep answering the phone from friends asking when and why I traveled to the United Kingdom.

Liv I must have had your email address on my contacts list. so sorry. I promise I will remove it as soon as I get back into my "locked out" yahoo email account.

Oh, and this whacked out lady is still blogging at http://brendabowers.wordpress.com but I warn you I have not changed my political views so you really don't want to visit my site. BB

I have no problem with your views on political matters or what not, it's the personal bigoted attacks against myself which made me think your less intelligent and more of a nutter.

I found the green US dollars a nightmare when trying to identify notes of different values within a wad. The multicolored cartoon money with a queen's face on it is so much more user friendly with different colours for different values

It's funny, I have about £10 in my coin purse that was left over from our last trip over there. A few months ago, I was rummaging through it looking for my credit card to pay for groceries and a £5 note fell out up at Food Lion.... The cashier made some remark about it being "some fancy Monopoly money"...

Different sizes too. You'll never confuse a £100 with a £10 note, which I nearly did in the US. Plus they have Braille.

But it would damage industry to make American counterfeiters buy blue and red ink as well as green

Wasn't the change in coloring due to that huge counterfeiting scam that occurred over there? Think I remember a History channel ep about it. Guy got off on some legal loophole the first time, then ended up getting busted for it again?

Not that I know of. Until 1928 all banknotes were simple black on white, one sided printing. Prior to the mid 1800's they all had to be signed by hand.

The shift to coloured. double sided notes came with the drive to get gold out of circulation due to shortages. Undoubtedly counterfeiting was an important consideration, but I'm not aware of any particular event that triggered it

The Germans did have a large scale plan to destabilize the pound,by counterfeiting the 'White five pound note'. they planned to drop them from planes into the country side, but instead gave them to agents.

Because of the number of German counterfeit notes in circulation, the five pound note was replaced with a blue one in the late 1950s. As a kid I vaguely remember being shown one of the old ones. Five pounds would have been a good day's wage then.

Anatasios Arnaouti was found guily in 2005 and he counterfeited mostly £10 notes. The current £10 is the 'Darwin' series which came out in 2000, so it doesn't seem that he had any impact on note design.
