Innovative approach to atheist billboards
The Unione degli Atei e degli Agnostici Razionalisti (UAAR, the Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics) in Italy had planned a bus ad campaign, but were thwarted because Monsignor Bagnasco (President of the Catholic Church of ITALY) felt 'personally wounded' by the advert and the ad agency determined that suggesting that God might not exist would be "offensive to all members of the great monotheistic religions."
So they tried again with stationary billboards, and after weathering a storm of opposition got permission to post signs saying "I prefer to reason rather than believe. That’s why I’m an atheist!" Despite requesting a billboard on the other (treeless) side of the street guess where their sign ended up?
