And now for a run-in with the IRS

What The Funk?

Of all the things I'd love to experience in life... getting a bill from the IRS is as far from the list as I can imagine.

And it's for $40,000...!!

I have the right to appeal the bill. Which I will. Seems that back in 2011, I moved my IRA in a local bank into a new type of account that allows me to invest the money in mutual funds and such-like... like certain 401k accounts do.

And of course, the bank reported the move to the IRS. Partially. As in, they reported that $93k was moved out of my old IRA. Didn't BOTHER to inform them that it was move INTO another one. So now, I have to go to the bank and get them to dig up the record of my IRA roll-over.

Idiots.

Oh my gosh! That's frightening!

I've been told that the IRS is cracking down on stuff lately. They're out to get their money this year I think.

That's fine. They will have to forgo this money cause it's not correct. I just have to document it, which I will do... and give my bank a bit of a hard time about it in the process.

See, now we know the truth, SFI is living large with tax-evasion. Traveling the world on his yacht while pretending to be a job-seeker in NC.

You had me SFI!

Went to the bank this afternoon, showed the lady my paperwork. Told her my tale of woe. After a bit she said, "Oh wow -- someone REALLY screwed this up!" She got on the phone with the bank's IRA administration. She told them, "I have a really BIG problem here..."

The IRA people asked the lady to send them scanned copies of all the stuff involved in the transaction. The lady promised me that they would straighten everything out and I won't have to worry with the IRS at all. I am skeptical. Told her, "Look, that letter says I have until May 29 to respond. I need to know what *I* should say to them."

She took my email addy and said if I don't hear back by next Friday, call her and she'll get things on track.

They bloody BETTER had! All I'm sayin'
