The USA without doubt. Ireland was held back by the Catholic Church, but in the last decade the church has lost a huge amount of influence. Ireland was a very socially repressive state due to the influence of the church, but the population is a lot more enlightened. The USA is a secular state but the population (or at least a large proportion of it) is socially repressed (and repressing)
Ireland had a brief flirt with supply side economics (you may remember how thesumofyourfears lauded Ireland for lowering business taxes) which resulted in a disastrous deficit for them
. Since then they've become a lot more Keynesian.
