We are seeing today that democracy isn't exactly all that, since in Egypt, the people elected an Islamist who has decided that Democracy isn't quite his cup of tea. His declarations of assumed political control and status above any judicial or parliamentary review aren't going down well with his opponents, as you might expect. I wonder how long the Islamists who support him now will take to realize something is not quite right in Cairo.
Of course, this Mursi character is announcing that the powers he is giving to himself are "only temporary," and are meant only to streamline the process of getting the rest of the government set up properly. How many dictators in history have said EXACTLY THE SAME THING? I imagine that a dedicated student of history like Dubya could readily tell us that. Assuming he wasn't drunk or stoned on coke during the class that discussed that point of history...
And in case you're wondering, the answer is YES, I AM still bitter that a dimwit who got his way through life paved by his rich family became President of this country for eight frickin years. It ,ay be beside the point of this post, but I will remind the world of this item so long as there are neo-cons still in the US government. So there.
