Democrats Face Electoral Backlash After Health Care Vote, Top Republican Warns

Democrats will pay at the polls for their vote in favor of a sweeping health care reform package Saturday night, a top House Republican warned, while Democrats cheered the bill's narrow approval as a historic achievement.

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., chairman of the House Republican Conference, told "Fox News Sunday" that the vote proved Democrats have not listened to American concerns about over-spending, bailouts and government takeovers.

Considering that this was the prime issue in the LAST election and the government was elected with a mandate to do just that, had the bill not passed the Dems would lose dramatically - from their key demographic staying home.

Maybe the NEXT election will be about the economy. Given that this has turned the corner and leading indicators are rising (employment is a lagging indicator) it won't be the slam dunk they think.

I think if it passes... and people actually see the effects of it... You'll see the largest Democrat majority ever next election.

Just for giggles look up the lone Republican who voted for the bill: Joseph Cao "Cao" on Twitter

Love0fFreedom: REPUBLICAN TRAITOR JOSEPH CAO IS A DOMESTIC TERRORIST!

And then if you're not too disgusted, they had a go at his Wikipedia page

Family
Joseph Cao has no family. He was born of Satan and lost a soul the day he voted against republicans. Cao's father, My Quang Cao (born 1931), was a lieutenant in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam and was captured by the North Vietnamese Army at the end of the Vietnam War. His mother, Khang Thi Tran (born 1935), did not immediately flee South Vietnam. She stayed with Cao's five other siblings and visited his father while he was imprisoned in the reeducation camp. Cao was 8 years old when he arrived in the United States with two siblings and an uncle as a refugee

Lovely.... The face of some American once again shows its true colors.....

Bravo to the guy. In fact, surprised am I that more Republicans didn't vote for it... Nothing like getting written down in history as the people who stood in the way of Humanity based on one's own pride.

Horrific government overspending has been a Republican hallmark for the past 30 years. I have no idea why it should be of interest all of a sudden. And what healthcare reform should have to do with the government taking over failing corporations, I can't begin to guess. Maybe Summy can come back from his hibernation to explain it?

It's only OK to spend on wars, not on promoting the gerneral welfare.

Well if this health care thing makes it's way to the Prez's desk... perhaps this will be the end of the Republican Party as we know it.

How ironic is it that the Republicans scream that the reform is targeting one sixth of the nation's economy? If it weren't for their buddies in the health insurance industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the medical equipment industry, gouging us at every turn, healthcare WOULDN'T BE one sixth of the economy.
I guess we can't count on Senator Burr to help us...he took more money from health care lobbyists than ANY OTHER SENATOR!!!

I can't tell you all how proud I am of the American Medical Association for backing the House bill. I suspect that once the millions of people without health coverage discover what a boon it is to be able to go to the doctor, they will love and protect the new program just as much as elders protect Medicare. Remember, a huge number of elders opposed Medicare during the fight to get it approved. Now there are predious few (dear old Benda Bee being one of that minority evidently) who would have any truck with a politician who openly advocated for ending medicare.
