So I've been debating writing this for sometime because I suspect based on about what I'm saying those of you who haven't had Sir Pizza will shrug your shoulders and write it off. After all, it's not really pizza in any traditional sense of the word. The pepperoni is square, The crust is non-traditional, and it's contrary to all the hip and cool pizza bistros these days where they pile on exotic vegetables on your pizza. At Sir Pizza the veggies are square chopped up bits and they match the tic-tac-toe board of slices. I mean from the pictures and the description I'm giving you, you could almost classify it as frozen pizza... but it's not. There's something magical about Sir Pizza's pizza, something that separates it from normal pizza. In fact if I were craving a normal pizza, I wouldn't want that.... but this... this is almost a food group of it's own. It's one of those mad unique flavors that you could never get anywhere else. I mean don't expect exquisite... expect, fat and greasy, expect dragging home one of these huge pizzas pulling out the beer and making it a night of it. That's this pizza's niche.

So here it is. When I go to Sir Pizza I order the "Deluxe" which was always ironically easy enough to remember since my former employer went by the same name. It's basically their version of a "supreme" or "extravaganzza" or "all-the-way". Price out the door is generally about $23.00, and it's gargantuan! Much larger than most pizza chains larges. It will easily feed a family of four if not twice that. The first thing you'll notice is the pizza is cut in squares, not slices. There is also no edge on the crust... and this is where it gets good. The Deluxe comes in generally at 3/4 to 1" thick covered in tons of cheese meats, and chopped veggies. It's really quite extraordinary. The crust takes on this buttery, oily flaky deep-fried texture. The best thing I could explain what comes close is if you were to make pizza at home and go buy several pounds of various deli meats and cheeses and toss it on a thin crust and then gently deep frying it..... It's really out of this world.

It's like this. Ask most adults if they like McDonald's and they'll say "no"... but every now and again if they were to be honest.... even the most profound foodie gets a hankering for a "Big Mac". This is the "Big Mac" of pizzas. It's drippy, greasy, and a lot of food.

The Sir Pizza in High Point has been a staple of Main Street for Years, yet Greensboro (to my knowledge doesn't have one) There's also one in Burlington, and in Siler City. If you happen near one, give it a go, you might just get hooked. I will warn you, it's a staple of us "Redneck's" diets.... it's like crack for us Rednecks..

I was in a fish and chip shop near Edinburgh several years ago and saw that they offered pizza by the slice. I though it would make a change and ordered a slice. Imagine my horror when they took a slice of frozen pizza and dropped it in the deep fryer.

Fortunately the person behind me also ordered pizza so I let him have that slice and ordered haggis and chips instead. Deep fried haggis isn't bad

Don't go there for the food. It's mostly potatoes, turnips and beef dripping. The stovie (potato & turnip pie) is the triumph of Scottish cuisine. I like a good haggis though, when they are in season. All Scottish food is best after a day in the wet hunting the haggis and at least two glasses of malt.

It's not so strange as you might think, being identical to the pizza served by Bill's Pizza Pub. There used to be one on Battleground, one on HP Road and one on Old Randleman Road. We used to take our flowcharting professor to lunch and buy him beer. He always fell asleep during class. We shared the work and everybody got an A.

Bill's is still going strong. We still have locations on HP Road and Randleman Road. Last year, we opened in Oak Ridge at 68 Place Center, to the left after passing the Old Mill. Come see us again!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... I think the Burlington location is, um, gone. :(

There's one of these in Asheboro on 64. I believe there is one in Troy, as well.

You HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!! Bill's Pizza is a far cry from Sir Pizza. Bill's is a good pizza, but there is no way it will ever come close to Sir Pizza. If Sir Pizza is a regular computer then Bill's Pizza is a notepad....not even close

I was passing through Asheboro today... didn't have time to stop for crack, er, Sir Pizza. I just drove past and I tried not to stare. I was actually very tempted to start my trip earlier and hit Johnson's when they opened... but I couldn't justify heading east on 64 when I needed to go west. Plus I think someone would have killed me if I got a Johnson's fix and he didn't. Maybe next time... Maybe my cholesterol level is thanking me today, though my tastebuds are saying "dumbass."
